Writing Children's Literature

Yes, Virginia, there IS a workshop for children's writers!
Adults writing for children now have a cozy spot in Old Town to convene, conjure, and communicate. Jane Harrington, Alexandria author of fiction and non-fiction for ages six to fifteen, will lead this three-session workshop designed to encourage writers and share information about children's publishing.
Whatever your experience level, whatever your genre, you are welcome to participate! Registration will be capped at twelve participants. If you have a work-in-progress, please bring up to eight (double-spaced) pages to the first meeting, with some copies to share.
Dates: July 11, 18, and 25
Time: 7 pm - 9:30 pm
Location: The Conference Room at historic Elliot House, 323 South Fairfax St., adjacent to the Old Presbyterian Meeting House, in the heart of Old Town Alexandria, Virginia. View map. Parking is available.
Fee: $95 members/$110 nonmembers
About the instructor:
Jane Harrington writes humorous fiction and creative non-fiction for young people. Her published fiction includes middle grade novel LUCY’S (COMPLETELY COOL AND TOTALLY TRUE) E-JOURNAL (Scholastic, 2001), and teen novel FOUR THINGS MY GEEKY-JOCK-OF-A-BEST-FRIEND MUST DO IN EUROPE (Darby Creek, 2006). EXTREME PETS (Scholastic, 2007) draws from years as an environmental educator for parks and schools in the Washington DC area.
Jane is currently working on a master's degree at George Mason University in the Teaching of Writing and Literature, and tutors high school writers.
She is a member of the Children's Book Guild of Washington, SCBWI, Author's Guild, and Writer's Center.
FOUR THINGS...has been recommended by VOYA, School Library Journal, the Children's Book Council, Children's Lit, and others. It also was nominated this year for the American Library Association's YALSA Quick Pick List.
EXTREME PETS...was the Washington Post Kids' Post "Book of the Week" in February. It has been recommended by dozens of national newspapers this winter/spring. Disney Adventures Magazine, Australia, is featuring it in their June 07 issue, with an author interview. Recommended by the Children's Book Council.
LUCY'S (...) E-JOURNAL...Jane's first book, published in 2001, has sold over 150,000 copies.
